FAQ
Why is Selection Helper a separate download?
Selection Helper needs Accessibility permission to read selected text from other apps. macOS App Store sandbox restrictions prevent this from being built into the main app, so it's distributed as a free companion plugin.
Is Selection Helper free?
Yes, Selection Helper is completely free. It's a companion plugin for LM Station and does not require any additional purchase.
macOS says 'unidentified developer' when I open Selection Helper
Right-click (or Control-click) the app and choose 'Open'. In the dialog, click 'Open' again. You only need to do this once. Alternatively, go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and click 'Open Anyway'.
LM Station doesn't detect the plugin
Make sure the SelectionHelper DMG is mounted and the app has been launched at least once. Then in LM Station, go to Settings → Tools → Selection Helper and tap 'Detect Plugin'. If the issue persists, try restarting both apps.
How do I create custom Agent actions?
In LM Station, go to Settings → Tools → Selection Helper → Skills. Add a new skill with a name, prompt template, and choose which AI model to use. The skill will appear in the floating toolbar when you select text.
Is my selected text sent to the cloud?
Selection Helper communicates with LM Station locally on your Mac. Your text is only sent to an AI provider if you configured a cloud-based model. If you use local models (e.g., Ollama), all processing stays on your device.
